History of Guac
The avocado originates in South Central Mexico, where it grows naturally. For this reason, guacamole was created by the Aztecs who inhabited that region. The food was host to a large number of health benefits. Avocados have a very high fat and protein content for a fruit. Diets in this society had a relatively low-fat content and so guacamole became a vital element to a nutritious diet. In addition, the Aztecs believed guacamole to be an aphrodisiac, further increasing its popularity. The Aztecs first made guacamole prior to the 16th century. Early guacamole was made purely of avocado. The modern name derives from the Nahuati word, āhuacamolli. Āhuacamolli literally translates to “avocado sauce”.
Simple, Fresh Ingredients
In my opinion, there’s nothing better than letting the natural flavor of food speak for itself. This fresh guacamole recipe is made with ripe avocados (organic is even better), fresh cloves of garlic, roma tomatoes, fresh-squeezed lime juice, and salt and pepper to taste. Whip this up for any gathering with tortilla chips on the side and watch it disappear before you even get to taste it. Happens to me every time!
How to Assemble
Simply cut ripe avocados in half, remove and discard pits, unless you are making the guacamole a couple of hours ahead of time. Keep the pits and put them directly on top of the mixed guacamole to keep it from browning. Spoon out avocado into a mixing bowl.
Smash avocado with a fork, add diced tomato, minced fresh garlic, and lime juice. Mix until you reach your desired consistency, I like mine on the chunkier side. Add salt and pepper to taste and voila! Ready in 5 minutes.
Recommendation
Made in Wisconsin from locally sourced and 100% repurposed American maple wood, this butcher block is hard on everything but your knife blades. The maple wood is professionally kiln dried and manufactured into cutting boards in a humidity-controlled factory, which increases the cutting board’s strength and durability. The block features a full juice groove on one surface, perfect for carving large roasts, and a flat surface for larger prep needs or use as a cheeseboard. You can even personalize it!
This kitchenware is my absolute favorite! You can buy from them knowing all of these items will last a lifetime. Everything is top quality and I wouldn’t recommend it to you if I didn’t truly believe in the product. They have so much to offer so make sure you click around and check it all out!
