Today’s Kitchen Experiment – Savoury Oat Bowl
I’ve been seeing savoury oat recipes all over TikTok, but none were quite to my taste. So I simply had to take what I liked from each recipe to create my own. I knew that I wanted the base layer of the oats to be cheesy and I knew I wanted to use my Big Mountain veggie crumbles. They’re the best, gluten-free, soy-free, cruelty-free, non-GMO AND the company is women-owned!
If you try this savoury oat recipe let me know in the comments below, I love to hear from my readers.

History of Oats –
In China & Greece
Oats were used by the ancient Chinese people, dating back as far as 7,000 BC.
The ancient Greeks even used oats in a way we would recognize today as porridge. However most ancient Greeks, like the ancient Romans, did not like oats and used them for feeding to their livestock.
In Europe
In Europe during the Bronze Age, oats were being used as cattle feed, and by around 1,000 BC it was being cultivated because it was a reliable crop in cold conditions. This makes the use of oats favorable above other grains (such as wheat), particularly in countries like Ireland, Scotland, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Poland, and Germany.
In North America
In the USA, Scottish and Dutch immigrants from the 1600s (some of them Quakers) introduced recipes using oats into the country. The famous Quaker Oats Company, in 1877, was the first US breakfast cereal business to register their trademark, the “Quaker Man” brand image (known as “Larry”).
